마지막으로 인사동정. 인사동정은 별거 아닌 듯 하지만 이전의 표현들이 문제(사건사고)나 대상(의견발표) 등 객체 중심인 반면, 인물 중심으로 주도적으로 메시지를 끌고 갈 수 있어 적극적으로 만들어 갈 수 있다. 때문에 섬세한 어휘 선택과 함께 인물의 과거 경력이나 발언 등을 잘 조합한다면 은은하면서도 파워풀한 메시지가 될 수 있다. 아무리 개인의 역량이 뛰어나도 부연설명을 제공하는 조직이 협조적이지 않으면 아름다운 뉴스가 나오기 어렵다. 특히나 사임/해임의 경우에는 더더욱 조직의 배려가 중요하다. 연례행사이지만 조직의 공과와 향후 방향을 가늠할 수 있는 중요한 척도인 만큼 꽤나 고심이 필요한 작업이다. 우엉우엉

Arianna Huffington, the charismatic and self-invented founder of the Huffington Post, is stepping down as the site's editor-in-chief to build a new site around the concepts of health and wellness.

The move comes a few weeks after the Huffington Post's parent company, Verizon, acquired the fading digital powerhouse Yahoo.

Huffington ascribed her departure to the desire to pursue her separate and new initiative, called Thrive Global, built around the concepts of wellness and striking a balance between work and personal realms.

"I've become more and more passionate — okay, obsessed — with burnout and stress and how we can reduce their impact on our lives," Huffington wrote in a memo to staff. "One of the Thrive principles is knowing when it's time for a new chapter to begin."

She had earlier come in for criticism for leveraging her site to promote her book on the same subject.

At its founding in 2005, Huffington Post was built on the luster of unpaid celebrity bloggers and the sweat of lightly paid junior journalists who aggregated, condensed and lightly rewrote coverage from other news sites around the world. The site took a distinctively liberal cast, built on the embers of opposition to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It also figured out how to generate traffic and clicks in the era just before social media, becoming one of the most popular news sites in the country. Over time, Huffington Post added dozens of original reporters who wrote on politics, social protest, entertainment, drug use, war and other topics.

On Thursday, Huffington said the Yahoo deal did not inform her decision to leave, which took staffers by surprise. The site's CEO, Jared Grusd, told staffers the Huffington Post would continue to focus on news and politics, as well as Huffington's own interests on wellness and a balanced lifestyle, according to reports from the site's own media reporter, Michael Calderone.

Hong Kong student activist Joshua Wong Chi-fung was denied entry to Bangkok, detained for 12 hours and sent back home on Wednesday at Beijing’s request, with Thailand’s military leader declaring it was “China’s business”.

Wong, 19, had been invited to Bangkok’s leading university to mark the 40th anniversary of a student massacre – a highly sensitive time for the junta which seized power in 2014.

Recounting his ordeal back in Hong Kong, Wong said he was surrounded by 20 police and immigration officers who confiscated his passport and detained him in a cell at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.

He was barred from making phone calls to either Thai human rights lawyers or his family.

China’s foreign ministry would only say it “respects Thailand’s exercise of immigration control in accordance with law”.

Amnesty International said the case “raises serious concerns about how China is using its influence over Thai authorities”.

The controversy coincides with an official visit to Thailand by Hong Kong justice minister Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung, who earlier brushed off suggestions about Beijing’s involvement.

Thitinan Pongsudhirak, a political scientist at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University, where Wong had been scheduled to speak, said the Thai government “has kowtowed to China to its own detriment as this case ­attracts the international ­spotlight”.

Wong said he felt “very fortunate” that he had been able to ­return home, “especially in light of the disappearance of Gui Minhai”, the Causeway Bay bookseller who vanished in the Thai resort city of Pattaya last year and later resurfaced on the mainland under detention.

A zombie flick is smashing box office records in South Korea. Train to Busan has been seen by an estimated 11 million Koreans — a fifth of the population — and broken numerous records, including the highest single-day ticket sales in Korean film history.

Without giving too much of the story away, the film blames corporate callousness for the death toll. The government covers up the truth — or is largely absent. And the crew? Rather than rescue passengers, it follows the wishes of a businessman.

These themes are particularly resonant in South Korea, which in 2014 faced national tragedy after 300 people, mostly teenagers, died when a ferry overturned in the sea. Investigators found the ferry's corporate owners overloaded it to save money. And the captain and crew got into lifeboats without rescuing passengers.

News media, toeing the government line, originally reported that everyone survived. The Korean president's whereabouts on that day are still unexplained.

It didn't let up. Last year, as Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS, spread in South Korea, the government didn't disclose key information about where patients were being treated and how officials would contain the outbreak, instead demanding that people trust them.

Autograph-seeking fans and journalists thronged China's newly minted Olympic sensation, 20-year-old swimmer Fu Yuanhui, at the Beijing airport on Tuesday.

Her return from Rio was not triumphant because of the bronze medal she won, but because of the Olympic spirit she showed — and the dramatically new and different vision of sports and athletes that she suggested to a country in transition away from decades of a Soviet-style, state-run sports system.

Fu, a resident of eastern Hangzhou city, became famous practically overnight, thanks to a CCTV5 interview after she qualified for the 100-meter backstroke final last week.

Fu was ecstatic to hear from her interviewer that her semifinals time of 58.95 seconds was faster than she had thought. "Was I that fast?" she gasped, alternately gaping, beaming and bugging her eyes out.

She described her grueling training regimen and said she had "expended my primordial energies" to get these results, a phrase that, along with the interview, has gone viral on the Internet.

In other footage from the Olympics, Fu pouts and giggles, wags her tongue and pumps her fists in madcap eruptions of gleeful energy.

She also broke a taboo by mentioning in an interview that she was swimming with considerable pain due to her menstrual period.

Fu has picked up millions of followers on Weibo, China's version of Twitter, and unleashed a merchandising maelstrom of T-shirts, phone cases and other baubles on Taobao, a Chinese website analogous to Amazon and eBay.

These athletes are selected at a young age to be cultivated by the state system. The system is criticized for the harshness of its training (even as it is praised for the results it gets) and for the limited options left to those who fail to reach the pinnacle of their chosen sport.

China currently ranks second in overall medals behind the U.S. and trails both the U.S. and U.K. in the gold count.
