21일, 위안부에 대한 하시모토 도루 오사카 시장의 망언이 수위를 높여가는 가운데 UN 경제·사회·문화적 권리위원회(U.N. Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; CESCR, 18개국 참여, 한국은 신혜수 위원 참여)는 일본 정부에 엄중한 권고를 전달했습니다. 아사히 신문은 자국에 영예롭지 않은 사건임에도 불구하고 해당 권고가 준비된 시점이 하시모토 시장의 발언 이전임을 밝히며 선을 긋고, 차분하고 분별력 있게 UN의 권고를 소개하고 있습니다.

 

22일에는 235개의 일본 여성시민단체가 오사카 시장의 사과를 촉구했고, 23일에는 국제인권감시단체인 앰네스티를 비롯한 68개 NGO가 공식 성명을 통해 일본 정부의 오사카 시장 발언 비판과 피해보상을 촉구했습니다. 정부 차원에서도 23일 러시아 외교부, 24일 미국 일리노이주 하원 등에서 일본 정부에 대한 비판과 위안보 역사교육 교과화에 대한 입장을 밝혔습니다. Financial Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung 등 해외의 저명한 언론매체도 일본의 노선에 대해 우려를 보내고 있습니다.

 

중국에 거주하고 있는 위안부 할머니들을 조명한 사진전을 열었던 사진잔가 안세홍은 "할머니 한 분 한 분이 역사"라고 말합니다. 역사는 시간과 함께 잊혀져 가는 걸까요. 아님 더 보편적인 가치로 부활하는 걸까요.

 

첫 여성 대통령을 배출한 우리나라는 어떤 목소리를 내게 될지 궁금합니다. 그리고 그 후손인 우리는 인류와 국제사회에 어떤 영감과 상상력을 불어넣을 수 있을지 또한 몹시 궁금합니다. 우엉우엉.
